Red Division Updates – November/December 2022
2022-23 Season Off To A Great Start!
Congratulations Red Division on a tremendous start to our season! The games have been competitive but also clean and drama-free. Penalty totals this year are as low as we've ever seen them – keep up the good work boys!
Fundraiser For The Family Of Brent Pope – Donate by December 3
As you know, we lost one of our Red Division brothers on November 1 with the passing of Brent Pope. Only 49 years of age, Brent leaves his wife Fegie, 3-year-old son Arthur, and 8-month-old daughter Felicisima.
Our division is doing a fundraiser, with all proceeds going to Brent's family. You can donate and get a chance to win a "Booze Basket" valued at $150.00. Tickets are $10 each or three for $20. You can purchase tickets from your Captain and pay him with cash, or you can e-transfer funds to dzavitz1@gmail.com, and we'll submit your tickets into the draw on your behalf based on how much you donate.
Tickets and donations must be received following the end of game play on Saturday, December 3. The draw will be held back at Hector's during our Hockey Night in Canada pub night. We will also do a 50/50 draw at Hector's, with tickets sold after each of the three games that day.
More than just a hockey league, the BOHC is a community-focused club. Please help Brent's family with whatever financial help you can swing. Thanks guys.
Breaking News – Poolies Are People Just Like Us!
Contrary to popular belief, our Red Division poolies do not share a communal apartment in the boiler room at Mainway Arena waiting to get called up to The Show. They have families and a personal life – some even have jobs! Since they are busy people like us, they can't always make it on last-minute notice to sub for your team. When you know that you will miss a game, give your Captain notice immediately so he can contact Pool Convenor Rob Allan (the hardest-working man in hockey). Year-to-date, we've only been able to fill 60% of pool requests, primarily because of the last-minute nature of many requests. Be a good teammate and give notice as early as you can.
Life Hack! How To Get Free Admission To The BOHC Christmas Party
Psssst…want free admission to the BOHC Christmas Party in support of the Burlington Food Bank? Your team purchased 10 tickets to the party on Saturday, November 26 at the Burlington Legion. If you want to attend, snag some tickets from your Captain, flash 'em at the door and roll in like a Rockefeller. If attending, please email Scot Cameron at scot@co2digital.com to help the organizers determine the numbers.
As Seinfeld Would Say, "What's The Deal With The Schedule Changes?"
Recently we've had some minor changes to our schedule. Here's the reason: from time to time, the City will approach the BOHC with open ice times due to cancellations from other ice users and give us the option to take them. Our original ice time allocation from the City had us finishing the season later in April than we usually wrap things up. The BOHC's goal is to tighten the time frame at the end of the year. By taking available ice time now, we will be able to compress the regular season and get the playoffs started sooner. Thanks for your understanding. The schedule changes are being done with good intentions so that, like the Toronto Maple Leafs, you can start golfing sooner.
Love The BOHC? Tell A Friend!
You know that this is the best men's rec league you've ever played in…so tell a friend! The BOHC membership has never been healthier, but we always need new guys coming into the club to keep it strong. So tell a buddy, neighbour, or teammate on your other beer league squad. For forty bucks, they get to join Canada's biggest and best over-35 league.
That's it for now, brothers. Enjoy the festive season, and see you at the rink and back at Hector's.
