Green Division season wrapped in quite the dramatic fashion Sunday
Kicking off championship Sunday was a face off between the round robin winners Bruins and hard charging leafs. Leafs had to hold off season champs Canadians in their last round robin game. Canadians who had an amazing year threw everything at the leafs but leafs held on for a 3-3 tie and berth in the final.
Green division was first game of the day, and kicked off the day with a classic game. Bruins playing without top center Pearson, who got injured in round robin, jumped out to a 3-0 lead heading into the 2nd period.
The Leafs continued to press and finally go on the board. sensing the tide was beginning to change they poured it on and tied it 3-3 with minutes to go. Bruins reeling, still got off the mat and counter punched and had some of their own chances in the closing minutes. With less than 10 seconds to go a last thrust by the leafs brought the play to the Bruins crease, were by some miracle we watched the puck skate the goal line to the far post and Jeff Lake sensing the opportunity for greatness lunged to chip the puck in with 1 second left on the clock!! Leafs pull off a remarkable come back! Bruins were full marks for their effort just bad puck luck in the end.
For his heroics Jeff Lake was named MVP. Its the first championship for rookie captain Nathan Jordan.
Now that the season is over its time to start thinking about next year, so if you have not yet signed up hurry up and get that done, you dont want to loose your spot for next winter season.
In closing I want to congratulate all the green division members this season. We may have not all achieved all the success in the hockey standings that we may have hoped for ....but i do hope you achieved our primary goal, which was to enjoy playing the game we love in a competitive and social environment.
see you all next season
