Earlier today, the Leafs lifted the Championship trophy after a 4-2 win over the Bruins. More on the game a little later in this post.
Puck drop on our 2018-19 regular season was back on September 23, 2018. Over the course of the 45 game "exhibition season", the Canadiens were in top spot for all but the first couple of weeks of the season. Congratulations to Tony Rumleskie and his team for winning the regular season title with 59 pts. The Bruins made a great run after balancing was completed around game 17 but fell just short. All of the teams were competitive and majority of games were settled by a margin of 2 goals or less.
To all of the Captains, thank you for all that you guys did to make the season great for all of the players. Bill Misener, Bill Adams and Gerard Doyle are finishing their term as Captain. Tony Rumleskie, Dave Whyte and Vic Brandonisio will be returning as Captains for 2019-20. To each of you, thank you for the commitment over multiple years to provide leadership in the division.
Jamie Lindsay has been a Co-Convenor for the past 2 seasons. Jamie played a big role in getting organized for the draft, balancing and completing reporting required by the BOHC Board. John Prior was probably the hardest working guy in the Division providing expert management to the pool. Thanks guys. It's been great working with you.
The Round Robin playoffs were quite a ride! 5 of the first 6 games ended in ties which is pretty much unheard of in the Club. The Bruins, after finishing 2nd in the regular season ended up on top of the standings followed by the Leafs. These 2 teams put on quite a battle in the Championship game. The Bruins were up 2-0 in the first period. Then the Leafs got rolling and with 4 unanswered goals, skated off with the title. This was a really entertaining game to watch. Stay tuned for the broadcast on Cogeco! Congratulations to the Leafs who will have championship bragging rights at our upcoming awards night.
Awards Night - April 23rd, 7 PM.
I look forward to hosting all of the players in the Division for our awards night on April 23rd. I hope that all of the players are able to attend what is always a fun evening and great wrap to the season.
After the awards night, my term as Convenor of Black Division comes to an end. I have enjoyed the opportunity to contribute to the Division and BOHC for the past 2 years. Jamie Lindsay will take on the Convenor role next season. Best of luck to Jamie.
I hope that each of you enjoyed your season and that you have a safe and healthy summer.
All the best boys! See you at the rink!
Jim Cruickshank, Convenor
